Man Dies, Two Others Hurt in Speed- and Alcohol-Related Crash in Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA. – A man died, and two others were injured when a driver ran a red light Tuesday night at an intersection in Bakersfield.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, the collision occurred around 11 p.m. at East California Avenue and Union Avenue.

Authorities said the adult male driver of a Dodge Charger was heading west on East California Avenue when he entered the intersection with Union Avenue on a green light.

At the same time, the driver of a BMW was traveling north on Union Avenue when they ran a red light at the intersection and crashed into the Dodge.

The man driving the Dodge was hospitalized with major injuries. The patient later died while receiving treatment.

A passenger in the BMW, only identified as an adult male, sustained major injuries. The driver of the BMW suffered moderate injuries. Both occupants were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police officers are investigating speed and alcohol as possible contributing factors.
