Hit-and-Run Driver Injures Pedestrian, Kills Another Driver in 2 Separate East Bakersfield Crashes

, CA – One person was killed and two others were injured in two successive collisions that occurred in east Bakersfield Saturday evening, according to a Bakersfield Police Department report.

The first collision was reported at about 6:02 p.m. on June 21 and happened at the intersection of Baker Street and Sumner Street.

As BPD officers responded to the crash, they received additional reports of a second crash at the intersection of Baker and Niles streets.

Officers responding to Baker Street and Sumner Street found a man down in the roadway with critical injuries. The man was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

At Baker Street and Niles Street, responding officers located two damaged vehicles, fully engulfed in flames.

One of the drivers, a man, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His name was not immediately released.

The surviving driver, also a man, was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Bakersfield Police Department said a driver was heading northbound on Baker Street when he struck the at the intersection with Sumner Street, and fled the scene, leaving the male pedestrian with life-threatening injuries.

The man drove northbound at a high rate of speed, ran a red light at the intersection of Baker and Niles, and struck a vehicle traveling westbound, killing the driver.

No additional information was provided.

The incident is under investigation.
