Bakersfield, CA – One person was killed and three others were injured after a driver tried to pass traffic on Highway 65 Sunday night leading to a two-vehicle collision, according to the California Highway Patrol.

According to the CHP, investigators said a 55-year-old man traveling southbound on Highway 65, north of Minneola Avenue in a 2013 Toyota Sienna at an undetermined rate of speed, behind a 2005 Ford F-350, pulling a two-axle trailer operated by a 23-year-old man.
The Toyota driver then drove into the northbound lane and attempted to pass the Ford. The Toyota driver noticed oncoming northbound traffic and veered into the southbound lane and in the process, the Toyota struck the left front end of the Ford.
The impact caused the Toyota to overturn, and a passenger was ejected, according to CHP. The ejected passenger suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim's name has not been released.
The Toyota driver and his two other passengers suffered moderate to major injuries and were taken to Kern Medical Center.
The driver and passengers of the Ford were not hurt.
CHP officials said the northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 65 were shut down for about four hours for the investigation.
The incident remains under investigation.
