Merced, CA – The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating a fatal traffic collision involving two vehicles on SR-140 in Merced on Tuesday afternoon.
The crash occurred at around 12:30 p.m. on Highway 140, just east of Arboleda Drive.
CHP said a big rig and a sedan collided, and at least one of the vehicles caught fire.
Authorities said at least one person died in the crash. It was not immediately clear if anyone else was hurt in the collision.
Highway 140 was shut down between Arboleda Drive and Plainsburg Road as crews worked at the scene.
The incident is under investigation.
