Poway, CA – The police are investigating a deadly multi-vehicle collision that occurred Friday afternoon at an intersection in Poway.
The San Diego County Sheriff's Office responded to the incident shortly after 12:30 p.m. just north of the intersection of State Route 67 and Iron Mountain Drive.
The police said three vehicles were involved in the crash. One of the vehicles came to rest down a ravine causing fire in the surrounding vegetation.
Five people died following the wreck. Their identities were not immediately released.
The firefighters from Cal Fire San Diego and the Poway Fire Department arrived at the scene to control the spread of fire.
Both directions of the highway were closed for several hours between Scripps Poway Parkway and Iron Mountain Drive during the on-scene investigation.
Additional details regarding the accident were not available.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
