Tillamook County, OR – A juvenile was killed and two others hospitalized after a hit-and-run car crash on Highway 18 in Tillamook County about two weeks ago.
According to the Oregon State Police, the wreck happened at around 3:15 a.m. on July 12 on State Route 18 near milepost 14.
Reportedly, a white Honda Civic driven by Alejandro Christopher Velazquez Lopez, 34, of Tillamook, was traveling eastbound on the highway when for unknown reasons it left the travel lane and entered the eastbound shoulder, where a black Nissan Altima with a flat tire was parked.
Three 17-year-old males were outside the Altima, changing the flat tire, when they were hit by the Civic. The Civic then fled the scene.
All the juveniles were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, where one of them died two days later.
A 17-year-old female passenger, who was inside the Altima at the time of the crash, was not injured.
OSP Major Crime Section detective believed the suspect, Lopez, left the country and there is an active warrant for his arrest.
During the on-site investigation, the roadway was shut down for about eleven and half hours.
The crash remains under investigation.
