Joe Paul Gongora Jr Killed in Taft Motorcycle Crash on Kern Street

, CA.- The motorcyclist who was killed in a hit-and-run collision in Taft on Sunday morning has been identified as Joe Paul M. Gongora Jr., 47, of Taft, according to the Kern County Coroner's Office.

The incident took place in the 1000 block of Kern Street at around 10:43 a.m. July 27.

According to the authorities, a white Chevrolet Silverado was making a left turn from westbound Kern Street when it collided with an eastbound Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Gongora.

Gongora was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Silverado fled the scene after the crash.

Police identified the suspect as Alejandro Padilla Jr., 48, who surrendered to the authorities on Tuesday after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Padilla is facing charges of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run causing death.

An investigation into the collision is ongoing.
