, California (May 31, 2022) – A man died, and a woman was hospitalized in critical condition after they were involved in a Milpitas hang-gliding accident Monday afternoon, authorities said.

The two crashed at around noon on May 30 at Ed R. Levin County Park, located at 3100 Calaveras Road.

The County sheriff's officials said the man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the woman was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition.

The pair crashed on the 2,500-foot Monument Peak.  Authorities said both parties were harnessed together on a tandem flight after taking off from the highest point at the park.

Emergency crews accessed the park from Monument Peak Road and were assisted by a Cal Fire helicopter and Stanford Lifelight medical air support.

Authorities are investigating what led up to the accident at the park, which is popular with hang-gliders and paragliders.
