One Hurt in Merced Car Accident on Santa Fe and Olive Avenues

Merced, California (July 27, 2022) – One person was injured in a crash involving a suspected DUI motorist in Merced on Tuesday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The wreck happened at Santa Fe and Olive avenues just after 6:00 p.m. on July 26.
CHP said a man in his 40s was driving a Mustang southbound on Santa Fe Avenue when he swerved into the path of oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a northbound minivan driven by a man in his 50s.
The impact caused the minivan to overturn and it burst into flames.
CHP said the driver of the minivan was seriously injured in the collision.
The other driver reportedly tried to flee on foot but was caught and detained shortly after. According to the report, the driver was suspected to have been driving under the influence.
The driver is expected to face charges of DUI and hit-and-run.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
