1 Killed, 2 Hurt, Including Child in Pedestrian Crash on Highway 7 in Spanaway

, Wash. – A 48-year-old Tonja A. Johnson of was struck and killed by a car Friday night on Highway 7 in Spanaway.

The Washington State Police responded to the deadly wreck just before 10 p.m. on December 29, 2023, on State Route 7 near 208th Street.

Johnson was walking on Highway 7 near 208th Street when for unknown reasons an an older-model Honda Civic driven by a 26-year-old Tacoma woman struck him.

After the initial crash, the driver crashed the car into a shipping container in a parking lot.

Johnson was pronounced dead at the crash site.

The woman and the 5-year-old girl were transported to St. Joseph Medical Center and MultiCare Mary Bridge Children's Hospital respectively.

The driver was later arrested for suspicion of vehicular homicide, suspicion of driving under the influence and suspicion of child endangerment.

Highway 7 was shut down for about six hours early Saturday as police officers investigated the scene.

No more details regarding the crash were provided.

An investigation is underway.
