1 Killed, 2 Severely Hurt after Truck Collides with Sedan on Highway 20 near Omega Road in Nevada City

Nevada City, California (June 5, 2022) – One person died, and two others were seriously injured in a Nevada City crash that happened Saturday evening, the California Highway Patrol reported.
A Ford F-350 truck pulling a 30-feet gooseneck livestock trailer collided with a silver sedan at around 6:32 p.m. on Highway 20 near Omega Road.
The sedan reportedly caught fire after the impact.
One person was killed in the crash, and two people in the sedan sustained major injuries. Cal Fire responded to the scene with a helicopter to provide air transport to the patients.
Nevada County Coroner was requested to respond to the scene following the deadly accident.
The highway remained closed for several hours as authorities investigated.
Traffic Collision Fatalities Reached a 16-Year High in 2021, Early Estimates Show
Newly released estimates by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that fatalities reached a 16-year high last year.
According to the Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021 report released by NHTSA, about 42,915 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2021. This shows a 10.5% increases from the 38,828 fatalities reported in 2020.
NHTSA says the projection is the highest number of traffic deaths since 2005 as well as the largest percentage rise in the history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.
