Santa Barbara County, CA. – One person died, and another was critically hurt in a head-on collision that happened Tuesday morning near Vandenberg Village, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department reported.
The wreck took place at about 10 a.m. on northbound Highway 1 near Constellation Road.
The California Highway Patrol reported that two vehicles collided for an unknown reason, and one of them overturned onto its roof.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another person was extricated from the overturned car.
An air ambulance was requested to respond and transport a critically injured person to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital but the helicopter was canceled due to the life-threatening nature of the injuries. The victim was instead rushed by AMR ambulance to Lompoc Valley Medical Center.
Highway 1 remained blocked during the rescue operation.
Authorities are investigating the collision.
