1 Killed in Tucson Motorcycle Accident at South Alvernon Way and East Benson Highway

, AZ – A motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a dump in Tucson Monday afternoon, according to Tucson Police.

The accident happened in the area of South Alvernon Way and East Benson Highway at about 2:45 p.m. on June 9.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a Kenworth dump truck was stopped for a red light on westbound Benson Highway. A westbound motorcyclist reportedly passed several vehicles on the shoulder and stopped in the front line alongside the dump truck.

When the light turned green, police say the truck driver made a right-hand turn onto northbound Alvernon Way and struck the motorcyclist in the process.  

The truck remained at the scene after the accident.

The motorcyclist was taken to Banner-University Medical Center where he died a short time later.

The 40-year-old man operating the truck was not injured.

No other details were available.

The police are investigating the collision.
