One Dies in Oceanside Collision on Mesa Drive

Oceanside, California (September 11, 2021) – One person was killed in an alleged street-racing crash on Friday night in Oceanside, according to Oceanside police.
The incident happened in the 4300 block of Mesa Drive at about 7:40 p.m. September 10.
According to police, a Dodge Charger was traveling at a high rate of speed west on Mesa Drive, possibly racing with a silver vehicle, when the driver of the Charger lost control.
The charger reportedly spun out of control and collided with an oncoming Mini Cooper, before flipping several times. The Charger ended up nearly 350 feet down an embankment.

The driver of the Charger, a 27-year-old man, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Two people inside the Mini Cooper were airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries.
Authorities believe speed played a role in the accident.
The investigation is ongoing.
