, California (May 20, 2022) – One person was seriously injured in a collision involving a semi- early Friday morning in Beaumont, .

The accident was reported at around 2 a.m. on Interstate near Main Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A sedan was traveling on the roadway when it slammed into the rear of a big rig in unclear circumstances.

The paramedics who responded to the incident found the sedan driver trapped inside the car.

The sedan driver was transported to the hospital for treatment of major injuries.

More details about the accident were not provided.

An investigation into the accident is underway.

“Click it or Ticket” Seat Belt Safety Campaign to Run Through Memorial Day

Beaumont, California – As Memorial Day nears, the County Sheriff's Department reminds everyone taking a trip over the Memorial Weekend to always wear their seat belts and keep children in child safety seats.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, this year's Click or Ticket Campaign will run through Memorial Day. The campaign will begin on May 23 to June 5. During this time, according to the Sheriff's department, more officers will be on patrol, looking for drivers and passengers with no seat belts, as well as vehicles where children are not in secured child safety seats.

According to Deputy Ray Cortez of Riverside County Sheriff's Department, wearing a seat belt should be automatic for all drivers and passengers. “It is the safest thing to do, especially when it comes to securing children in child safety seats', Deputy Ray Said.

In 2020, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 10,893 people who were not wearing safety belts died in traffic collisions. California accounted for 20 percent of the traffic deaths. This translates to 756 fatalities.

The State of California has a primary safety belt law allowing the police to ticket anyone not wearing a seat belt without committing any other traffic violation.
