Two Firefighters Hospitalized after Madera County Fire Engine Accident at Road 36 and Avenue 13; Daniel Higgins Arrested

Madera County, California (February 1, 2022) – Two fire firefighters were injured Monday night in an alleged DUI crash at an intersection in Madera County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred at about 10:00 p.m. Monday, January 31, in the area of Road 36 and Avenue 13, the CHP reported.
According to the CHP, Daniel P. Higgins, 57, was driving a white car on Avenue 13 when he allegedly ran a red light at the intersection with Road 36 and collided with a 2016 Spartan Fire Truck that was heading southbound on Road 36.
The fire truck overturned upon the impact.

The two firefighters were transported to a nearby hospital, one with a dislocated shoulder and the other with a complaint of pain.
Higgins was airlifted to a nearby hospital to be treated for major injuries before being arrested on suspicion of DUI.
