Pilot, Passenger Hospitalized after Small Plane Crashes, Burns near Willits

Willits, California (June 1, 2022) – A pilot and a passenger were hospitalized when their plane crashed Monday near Willits in Mendocino County, as per a local news source.
The plane went down at around 8:30 a.m. and burned near a private landing strip, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office.
The aircraft was occupied by the pilot, a 33-year-old Willits man, and a 26-year-old passenger.
According to a witness, the parties sustained significant injuries in the accident. They were both transported by a family member of the pilot to a local hospital and later taken to an out-of-country medical facility for further treatment.
According to Cal Fire officials who responded to the scene, the plane was almost completely destroyed by the fire before they extinguished it.
No information was available about the make and model of the aircraft.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the accident. The Federal Aviation Administration was also notified of the crash.
