Madera County, CA – A man and a woman were killed following a head-on traffic collision caused by a suspected drunk driver on Highway 41 near Coarsegold, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly collision happened at about 4 p.m. on May 27 on Highway 41 near Van Teri Road.
Investigators said the driver of a white utility truck was speeding and lost control on a curve.
The driver of a black SUV swerved to avoid colliding with the truck, but the truck ended up clipping the SUV, before hitting a Ford Bronco.
The utility truck and the Bronco fell into a ravine after the collision.
Two people – a man and a woman – in the Bronco suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. The names of the victims were not immediately released.
The truck driver was seriously injured in the crash and is believed to have been impaired at the time of the crash.
The incident remains under investigation.
