A female passenger in the Civic was injured and was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs

Mecca, CA. – Two people are dead following a head-on collision that occurred on Thursday afternoon in Mecca.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened on state Route 111 south of Avenue 68, just after noon.
A blue Honda Civic was southbound when the driver allowed it to drift into a northbound lane to pass a slower vehicle, and collided head-on with a blue Acura TL.
The impact of the collision caused the Acura TL to overturn.
Both drivers were killed in the accident.
