La Mesa Man and Ohio Woman Killed in Inyo County Accident on U.S. 395

Inyo County, California (July 17, 2022) – Two people were killed in a crash involving a tractor-trailer in Inyo County on Saturday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The wreck happened at around 1:04 p.m. on July 16, on northbound U.S. 395 near South Haiwee Canyon Road.
According to CHP, a Hyundai Sonata was traveling northbound on U.S. 395 when he failed to slow down and crashed into a 2006 tractor-trailer that was moving at a lower speed.
The driver of the Hyundai, a 23-year-old La Mesa man, and his passenger, a 22-year-old woman from Ashland, Ohio, were both killed in the incident.
The driver of the truck, a 45-year-old from Lakewood, Ohio, was not hurt.
An investigation into the deadly accident is ongoing.

Inyo County, California (July 16, 2022) – At least one person was killed in a crash involving a sedan and a truck that happened Saturday afternoon in Inyo County, the California Highway Patrol said.
The accident was reported at around 1:05 p.m. on northbound Highway 395, near Olancha.
A white Hyundai sedan rammed into the back of a truck pulling a U.S. Air Force vehicle for unknown reasons. The vehicles were blocking the No. 2 lane.
According to a party reporting the accident, one person in the sedan was not moving after the crash.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene and pronounced at least one person dead on arrival. The Inyo County sheriff-coroner was summoned to the scene following the fatal accident.
The No. 2 lane remained closed for almost three hours as investigators worked the scene.
Authorities are still investigating the crash.
Crash Fatalities in California Went Up in 2021, Early Federal Estimates Show
Newly released estimates by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that fatalities caused by traffic crashes on U.S. freeways reached a 16-year high in 2021. The crash deaths also increased in almost every state, including California, according to NHTSA.
According to the Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021 report released by NHTSA, about 42,915 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2021 in the US. This shows a 10.5% increase from the 38,828 fatalities reported in 2020.
NHTSA says the projection is the highest number of traffic deaths since 2005 as well as the largest percentage rise in the history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.
In California, 4,258 people died in traffic collisions in 2021 – a 10.7% increase from 2020's 3,847, as per the NHTSA report titled – “Crash Stats: Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021.”
According to the traffic deaths estimates, in the two-state region that includes Arizona and California, crash fatalities in 2021 are projected to go up by 10% over the previous year.
