The wreck occurred around 10:44 a.m. on westbound I-40, about 10 miles from the town of Ludlow.

A white Dodge Ram pickup truck overturned several times for reasons still under investigation.

Two people and a dog in the vehicle got trapped in the wreckage.

An off-duty City Firefighter-Paramedic offered initial care before emergency personnel responded.

A team from the San Bernardino County Fire and Rescue arrived shortly after and extricated the victims.

Two helicopters were dispatched to the scene to airlift the patients to the hospital.

Mercy Air 22 transported one of the victims to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs while Mercy Air 66 took the other patient to Loma Linda University Medical Center. The report did not mention their condition.

Authorities are investigating the collision.
