County, CA. – Two people, including a wrong-way driver, were hospitalized after a multi-vehicle collision that happened Wednesday night in Chualar.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred just before 9 p.m. on southbound Highway 101.

Authorities said a driver was heading northbound in the southbound lanes of the highway when they collided head-on with two other vehicles.

The wrong-way car caught fire after the crash, with the driver still trapped inside.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene and pulled the driver out of the burning vehicle.

The motorist was taken to the hospital with major injuries.

An occupant of one of the other cars was also hospitalized with minor injuries.

CHP officers suspect alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.

Southbound Highway 101 was closed for an unknown period following the collision.
