Colfax, CA. – Two people died when a car traveling the wrong way collided with a big rig early Saturday morning on a freeway in Colfax.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the wreck was reported around 4:12 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 80 just west of Highway 174.
Reportedly, a Dodge Challenger was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of the freeway when it collided head-on with a big rig.
The Dodge allegedly caught fire after the collision.
CHP officers, Placer County sheriff's deputies, firefighters, and paramedics responded to the scene.
Two people inside the car were killed in the crash.
The big rig driver was unhurt.
Eastbound I-80 was closed for several hours following the fatal collision.
An investigation is ongoing.
