2 Sailors Hurt after Barrio Logan Work Accident at Belt Street in San Diego
Barrio Logan, California (July 7, 2022) – Two people were injured following a gas leak on Thursday morning at a shipyard in Barrio Logan in San Diego, according to a local news source.
The incident happened a while before 10:40 a.m. in the 2200 block of Belt Street.
As per the report, a guided-missile warship was getting routine maintenance at a shipyard when it experienced a gas leak.
Emergency teams and a hazmat crew rushed to the scene to manage the gas leak. Two navy sailors on the USS Mustin at BAE Systems suffered injuries from the spill.
The navy medical personnel attended to the two sailors. One of the patients was transported to UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest for further treatment.
The gas leak source had been contained, and all the crews aboard the ship evacuated as of 11:20 a.m.
The type of chemical vapors that leaked was not immediately known.
An investigation is ongoing.
