, Calif. – Three people were killed and one other person was injured in a two- on Thursday morning in San Francisco.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at around 4: 15 a.m. on the near Treasure Island.

CHP says a Mini Cooper had stopped on the Bay Bridge for undetermined reasons when it was rear-ended by a pickup .

Two people inside the MINI were pronounced dead at the scene and a third person was rushed to hospital where they later succumbed to their injuries.

The pickup driver was also taken to hospital with unspecified injuries.

The collision resulted in the closure of three eastbound lanes of the freeway for several hours.
