Phoenix, Ariz. – Six people, including five Phoenix Fire Department firefighters, were injured following a traffic collision involving an SUV and a fire engine near an intersection in the west side of Phoenix early Sunday morning, according to a police report.

The crash happened at about 1 a.m. near Thomas Road and 75th Avenue.

According to Phoenix police, a Sport Utility Vehicle ran a red light at the intersection and collided with a Phoenix Fire Department heavy rescue engine.

Reportedly, the driver of the SUV and all five firefighters sustained serious injuries in the crash. The patients were rushed to area hospitals and are in stable condition, authorities reported.

Police say the SUV driver is suspected of driving while impaired. The crash remains under investigation.
