Leilani Flores and another girl were riding a bicycle in a mobile home community when they were hit by an SUV making a left turn.
Tucson, Ariz. – Authorities identified the 7-year-old girl who died after a bicycle accident that happened Friday afternoon in a mobile home community in Tucson.
Lelaini Flores was riding a bicycle with another girl when they were hit by an SUV in the 1655 block of W. Ajo Way near S. Mission Road.
Tucson police responded to the area after receiving reports of a young girl hit by a car while riding a bicycle.
The officers and other emergency personnel found Flores with life-threatening injuries. The girl was taken to Banner University Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Flores and another girl were riding a bicycle on the wrong side of the road when a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe making a left turn to go southbound within the community hit them.
The other girl sustained minor injuries.
Both girls were not wearing helmets at the time of the accident.
The driver immediately stopped to render aid before officers arrived.
The motorist was evaluated for DUI but was not found impaired.
No charges or citations were immediately issued.
The incident remains under investigation.
