Elderly Woman Killed in Butte County Accident on Highway 99 and Highway 162

, California (September 6, 2022) – An elderly woman was killed in a Monday afternoon in Butte County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The wreck happened on and Highway 162 at about 12:20 p.m. Monday, September 5.

According to the CHP, a 37-year-old man was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Colorado north on Highway 99 when he failed to stop for a red light at the intersection of Highway 162 and collided with the driver's side of a 2011 Kia.

The impact caused the Colorado to roll and it came to a rest on its roof while the Kia slammed into two other vehicles stopped for a red light on southbound Highway 99.

A 77-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Kia was killed in the incident.

A minor in the Kia sustained moderate injuries.

The operator of the Colorado had major injuries while a juvenile passenger in that vehicle sustained minor injuries.

CHP said drugs were suspected to have played a role in the accident.

An investigation into the deadly crash is ongoing.
