Adolfo Raya Jr Killed and Aldo Montoya Hurt in Pond Accident on Highway 43 and Pond Road

Pond, Calif.- The driver who was killed in a multi-vehicle accident that left two other people injured in Pond on Friday afternoon has been identified as Adolfo Raya Jr., 38, of Shafter, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Four vehicles were involved in the wreck that took place just before 2:56 p.m. January 12 on Highway 43 and Pond Road, nearly 33 miles northwest of .

The CHP said Raya Jr. was driving a silver Chevrolet west on Pond Road when he stopped at the Highway 43 intersection.

He then entered the intersection and collided with a vehicle heading north on Highway 43.

One tire broke loose from the Chevrolet and struck two other vehicles near the intersection.

According to the report, Raya Jr. was killed in the crash.

A passenger in the Chevrolet, identified as Aldo Montoya, 33, of McFarland, was airlifted to Kern Medical with major injuries.

The driver of the northbound vehicle, a 19-year-old man, was taken to Kern Medical with moderate injuries.

Both sides of Highway 43 were shut down as authorities investigated the collision.

The investigation is ongoing.
