Alberto Gonzalez-Lopez Killed in Santa Maria Collision on Philbric and Betteravia Roads
Santa Maria, California (May 4, 2022) – Alberto Gonzalez-Lopez, 44, of Santa Maria, has been identified as the man who died in a Santa Maria car accident on Monday morning, according to the Coroner's Bureau.
The wreck took place near Philbric and Betteravia roads at about 6:30 a.m. on May 2.
According to California Highway Patrol, Fidel Gomes Reyes, 64, of Santa Maria, was driving a 2006 Peterbilt semi-truck heading west on Betteravia Road when he crashed into the left side of a southbound 2007 Honda Civic that was making a left turn onto eastbound Betteravia Road from Philbric Road.
The semi then went off the side of the road and slammed into a utility pole and a fence.
The impact caused the trailer of the big rig to overturn.

Gonzalez-Lopez was one of the passengers in the Honda and died following the accident.
Reyes suffered moderate injuries, while the driver of the Honda, identified as Domingo Perez Lopez, 32, of Santa Maria, was seriously injured. The two were taken to Marian Regional Medical Center for treatment.
A second passenger in the Honda, identified as Servillan Perez Lopez, of Santa Maria, suffered moderate injuries and was also taken to Marian Regional Medical Center.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
