Alberto Leal Among 2 Killed in South LA Accident on West 52nd Place and South Flower Street
South Los Angeles, California (August 4, 2022) – Alberto Leal, 44, was one of two people killed after a vehicle crashed into a street encampment on Tuesday morning in South Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.
The incident began at about 11:30 a.m. when authorities responded to reports of domestic violence in the 4800 block of Figueroa Street. Finding no evidence of domestic violence, the officers left the area.
The officers were later called back to the location at about 12:40 p.m. but a suspect involved in the incident fled in his vehicle.
After a short time, police found out that the suspect had slammed into a homeless encampment in the area of West 52nd Place and South Flower Street.
The vehicle struck and killed two homeless people, including Leal. The other victim was identified as Lashonda Davis, 43.
Authorities said the suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
There were no further details on the incident.

At about 11:30 a.m., authorities responded to reports of domestic violence in the 4800 block of Figueroa Street. The officers left after finding no evidence of domestic violence but were called back at about 12:40 p.m.
A suspect reportedly fled from the area in his vehicle. Shortly after, police found out that the driver had crashed into a man and woman in an encampment in the area of West 52nd Place and South Flower Street.
The two victims died in the crash.
