Alberto Rojas Hurt in Fatal Mendota Collision on West Panoche Road and Highway 33
Mendota, California (July 7, 2022) – Alberto Rojas, 32, of Fresno, was injured in a deadly crash that occurred south of Mendota on Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The wreck happened in the area of West Panoche Road and Highway 33 just before 4:45 a.m. on July 5.
CHP said Rojas was driving a 2003 Nissan Sentra westbound on West Panoche Road when he stopped at a stop sign at the intersection.
He then tried to cross Highway 33 and the Nissan was struck on its right side by a 2001 Toyota Sienna driven by 55-year-old Santos Valentin of Mendota.
Rojas was airlifted to Madera Community Regional Hospital with major injuries.
A 32-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Nissan was airlifted to Community Regional Hospital in Fresno, where she was pronounced deceased. Her identity has not yet been released.
Woman Killed in Mendota Crash on Highway 33 and West Panoche Road
Another female passenger in the Nissan suffered major injuries and was transported to Community Regional Hospital in Fresno.
A man aged 26 was also a passenger in the Nissan and suffered minor injuries. He was not transported to the hospital.
Valentin sustained minor injuries and declined medical attention.
Two Mendota men aged 59 and 62 were passengers in the Toyota and were transported to Community Regional Hospital in Fresno with moderate injuries.
A 43-year-old man in the Toyota suffered minor injuries and was not transported.
Alcohol and drugs were not suspected to have played a role in the incident, which remained under investigation.

Mendota, California (July 5, 2022) – Five people were hospitalized after a two-car crash that happened Tuesday morning in Mendota, Fresno County, the California Highway Patrol said.
Two vehicles collided at about 4:48 a.m. on Highway 33 near W Panoche Road and W California Avenue.
Emergency personnel responding to the scene found a white van and a brown sedan involved in the accident.
Five people injured in the accident were transported to Community Regional Medical Center. At least one of the patients was airlifted to the hospital by Skylife.
Highway 33 remained closed to allow the helicopter to land, and as investigators worked the scene.
CHP is investigating the accident.
