Bakersfield, CA.- A man was killed in a traffic collision that took place in Bakersfield early Friday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident took place on Highway 178 west of Beale Avenue at about 1:03 a.m. June 13.
According to the report, a Hyundai Santa Fe was traveling at a high rate of speed east on Highway 178 when it swerved onto the right shoulder.
The Hyundai slammed into the rear of a Saturn Ion that was parked along the shoulder of the highway and the impact caused both vehicles to roll over.
The driver of the Saturn, Alejandro Marix Manriquez-Chavez, 23, of Bakersfield, died in the crash.
The driver of the Hyundai and a passenger in the Saturn were both taken to Kern Medical Hospital with minor injuries.
CHP reported that DUI is suspected to have played a role in the accident, which remains under investigation.
