Police said Rodish and a second Caltrans worker had pulled over the right shoulder of the freeway to clear up some debris in the area when a freeway service patrol tow truck driver swerved off the road and onto the shoulder, crashed into the Caltrans car before running over Rodish.

San Clemente, CA. – 55-year-old Alexander Rodish has been identified as the Caltrans worker killed in a traffic collision involving a tow truck on Monday morning in San Clemente.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred after 9:30 a.m. on the northbound 5 Freeway near Avenue Palizado.
Police said Rodish and a second Caltrans worker had pulled over the right shoulder of the freeway to clear up some debris in the area when a freeway service patrol tow truck driver swerved off the road and onto the shoulder, crashed into the Caltrans car before running over Rodish.
The crash caused the Caltrans vehicle to drive over a curb and hit a Nissan Rogue.
Rodish sustained fatal injuries due to the crash.
The second Caltrans worker suffered injuries though it was not immediately known if they were hospitalized.
It was not immediately known what caused the tow truck driver to swerve off the road. He sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized.
The Nissan Rogue sustained injuries following the crash.
An investigation is ongoing.
