Angelo Machado Hospitalized after Merced County Collision on Highway 59 near Freitas Avenue
Merced County, California (October 18, 2021) – Angelo Machado, 53, of El Nido, was injured after being involved in a deadly head-on collision Saturday night in Merced County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The two-vehicle crash occurred at around 8:32 p.m. Saturday, October 16, on Highway 59, just north of Freitas Avenue.
CHP said a 2001 Mercedes sedan was heading northbound on Highway 59 when, for unknown reasons, the Mercedes drifted into the opposite lane, where it collided head-on with a 2018 Dodge Ram that was traveling southbound, driven by Machado.

Machado was taken to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto with minor to moderate injuries.
The Mercedes driver, whose name has not been disclosed pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Both vehicles were towed away for evidence.
The roadway remained closed for an unknown period following the accident.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
