A Toyota Tacoma truck was traveling north in the southbound lanes and collided head-on with a Mercedes Benz
Humboldt County, Calif. – The California Highway Patrol has released the identities of three people who were killed in a two-vehicle traffic collision on Highway 101 in Fortuna last month.
The victims have been identified as James Baker, 55, of Arcata, Christina Freitas, 42, of Del Rio, and Neveah Beyer, 9, of Del Rio. All three victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
According to CHP Humboldt Communications Center, Baker was driving a 2015 Toyota Tacoma truck the wrong way, northbound in the southbound lanes of 101 Freeway when it collided head-on with a 2010 Mercedes Benz C300 driven by Freitas.
The deadly crash happened at about 10:37 p.m. on southbound Highway 101 at Metropolitan Road.
Both vehicles were disabled and became fully engulfed by flames following the crash.
The incident remains under investigation.

Humboldt County, Calif. – Three people were killed in a fiery car crash that occurred just north of Rio Dell in Humboldt County on Sunday night.
At around 10:37 p.m., the CHP Humboldt Communications Center (HCC) received reports of a collision on Highway 101 near Metropolitan Road.
A 2015 Toyota Tacoma was traveling north in the southbound lanes and collided head-on with a 2010 Mercedes Benz C300.
Medical personnel arrived at the scene and pronounced the driver of the Toyota dead at the scene.
The driver of the Mercedes and a passenger were also pronounced dead at the scene.
Additional information about the accident was not released.
CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
