Kern County, Calif. – The Kern County Coroner's Office has identified Ronald Eric Dene, 56, of Los Angeles and 61-year-old Gregg Ray Sauer, of Lancaster, as victims among four killed in Kern County Head-On Collision on Friday evening.
Authorities said the collision happened at around 8:43 p.m. on December 29, 2023, on Highway 14 near Redrock Inyokern Road.
Reportedly, Sauer was driving a Mercedes southbound on Highway 14, south of Horse Canyon Road at the same time a driver of a Jeep was northbound on Highway 14, south of Horse Canyon Road.
Sauer tried to pass a slower-moving vehicle in the northbound lane and crashed head-on with the Jeep.
Sauer and his passenger Dene were pronounced dead at the scene.
Two of the three people in the Jeep were killed. The only survivor, a 24-year-old passenger in the Jeep, was taken to Antelope Valley Medical Center with major injuries.
No more details about the wreck were provided.
An investigation is underway.

Kern County, Calif. – One person was killed in a two-vehicle collision near California City in Kern County on Friday evening.
The fatal collision was reported around 8:43 p.m. on Highway 14 near Redrock Inyokern Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Two vehicles reportedly collided head-on in unclear circumstances. One of the cars flipped onto its side after the collision while another caught fire.
CHP says one person was killed in the accident.
More details about the accident were not released.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
