, California (February 23, 2022) – The bicyclist who was struck and killed by a vehicle driven by a city employee Friday morning in Long Beach has been identified as Ayomipo Lawal, 22, of Long Beach.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, the collision occurred on 17th Street and Oregon Avenue at about 7:42 a.m. on February 18.

Police said the city employee was driving a Ford F250 south in the area when they hit a bicycle rider, who reportedly failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection.

The bicyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police do not believe distracted driving, impairment, or speed were factors in the collision.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
