Azusa Motorcycle Officer Involved in Deadly Crash near Cienega Avenue and Sunflower Avenue
Azusa, California (January 31, 2022) – A bicyclist died, and a motorcycle officer was hospitalized when they collided Monday night near an intersection in Azusa, as per a local news source.
Authorities said the Azusa motorcycle officer collided with the bicyclist at around 9:10 p.m. near Cienega Avenue and Sunflower Avenue.
California Highway Patrol officers, Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies, firefighters, and paramedics responded to the scene.
The officer and the bicyclist were rushed to local trauma centers for treatment. The report said the bicyclist was later pronounced dead. The officer is expected to recover.
Sheriff's deputies shut the intersection down, and CHP officers were helping block traffic from nearby freeways to allow the rescue operation and an investigation.
The cause of the crash was not immediately determined, but an investigation is ongoing.
