Boy Critically Injured in Fiery Walnut Car Crash Dies

, California (May 10, 2022) – The County Coroner's Office said one of the two children critically injured in a Sunday morning fiery Walnut car crash died while undergoing treatment.

The boy was identified as 8-year-old Phillip Rosas.

Rosas, a 12-year-old girl, their mother and another adult female passenger were riding in a Chrysler Town and Country minivan when they were hit by Toyota Camry.

The collision occurred at around 1:50 a.m. at the intersection of East Valley Boulevard and North Grand Avenue.

The boy's mother was driving the minivan north on Grand, and the other driver was traveling east on Valley when the accident happened.

The minivan sheared a fire hydrant and the Camry burst into flames.

Rosas and the girl were hospitalized in critical condition. Rosas later died while receiving treatment at the hospital. Their mother and the female passenger were also hospitalized but in stable condition.

The driver of the Camry was treated for his injuries and arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter.
