, California (June 5, 2022) – Bryan Tostado, 25, of , was arrested after a deadly that happened early Sunday morning in Long Beach, the California Highway Patrol said.

At around 1 a.m., Tostado was driving a 2004 Toyota at a high rate of speed eastbound on the (91) Freeway when he collided with the center divider and hit the back of a 2022 Freightliner.

The accident happened west of Susana Road.

The impact caused the big rig to lose control and it crashed off the side of the roadway.

A resident driving the rig was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tostado was transported to Dignity Health-St. Mary Medical for minor injuries.

Authorities later arrested Tostado under unclear circumstances.

An investigation into the collision is ongoing.

Traffic Collision Fatalities Reached a 16-Year High in 2021, Early Estimates Show

Newly released estimates by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that fatalities reached a 16-year high last year.
According to the Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021 report released by NHTSA, about 42,915 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2021. This shows a 10.5% increases from the 38,828 fatalities reported in 2020.
NHTSA says the projection is the highest number of traffic deaths since 2005 as well as the largest percentage rise in the history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.
