La Mesa, CA. – Caleb Carvalho, 14, was seriously injured after being hit by a garbage truck as he rode a bicycle in La Mesa on Thursday morning.
The collision happened around 8 a.m. at the intersection of University Avenue and La Mesa Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The boy, a freshman at Helix Charter High School, was riding his bike to school when he was struck by a garbage truck.
Caleb suffered severe pelvic fractures and a femur fracture and was transported to the hospital where he underwent two surgeries.
The truck driver stayed at the accident scene and cooperated with the police.
