Charles French Hurt in Deadly Redding Accident on Highway 299

Redding, California (June 8, 2022) – Charles French, of Redding, was seriously injured in a fatal collision involving a big rig near Redding on Wednesday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.
At around 7:41 a.m., French was driving a Ford F150 eastbound on Highway 299, along Whiskeytown Lake, when he crossed the double yellow lines and collided head-on with a westbound semi-truck driven by Benjamin Cathcart, of Shingletown.
French was transported to a hospital with major injuries.
A passenger in French's vehicle was killed in the crash.
The big rig caught fire after the crash, but Cathcart was able to escape uninjured.
It's unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
