Woman Killed, Another Hospitalized after Head-On Collision on Highway 29 Outside of Lakeport

Lake County, California (August 26, 2021) – A Thursday morning Highway 29 crash left a woman dead and another seriously injured, as per a local news source.
66-year-old Charmaine Garcia of Kelseyville and another woman were involved in the 10:00 a.m. crash on the highway near Argonaut Road outside of Lakeport.
An initial investigation revealed that Garcia was driving a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee northbound at approximately 50 mph. At the same time, the other woman was traveling southbound at about 55 mph in a 1998 Mazda protégé.
For unknown reasons, the Mazda's driver drifted into the northbound traffic lane and collided head-on with the Jeep. Both vehicles were blocking both lanes of the highway after the wreck.
First responders pronounced the female driver of the Mazda dead at the scene. Her name was not released pending family notification.
Garcia suffered major injuries, including a possible broken foot and broken ribs. She was taken to Sutter Lakeside Hospital for treatment.
The engine compartment of one of the vehicles caught fire in the crash. Firefighters responded and put the fire out.
Both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the collision.
Authorities closed the highway until after 1:00 p.m., when the investigation was completed.
