Cyclist Killed in Suspected DUI Accident on State Street in Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara, CA. – A cyclist died, and a driver was arrested after a traffic collision that happened Sunday night in Santa Barbara.

According to the Santa Barbara Police Department, the accident occurred around 9:37 p.m. in the 1900 block of State Street.

Authorities said 36-year-old Christina Almada from Santa Barbara was driving a black SUV south on State Street when a bicyclist may have veered or turned in front of her car, leading to a crash.

Santa Barbara police, firefighters, and an AMR ambulance responded to the scene.

The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene after failed lifesaving measures.

Investigators noticed that Almada was displaying symptoms of alcohol intoxication and performed a DUI investigation.

Almada was arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence causing injury, and driving without a license. She was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail. Her bail was set at $100,000.

An investigation into the collision is ongoing.
