, California (June 23, 2022) – 30-year-old Christopher Prudente, of , was the man who died in a Wednesday morning multi-vehicle crash in Santa Fe Springs, according to authorities.

The collision occurred at about 2 a.m. on the southbound (5) Freeway near Carmenita Road.

Prudente was ejected from his car after three vehicles collided.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation is ongoing.

Santa Fe Springs, California (June 22, 2022) – According to a California Highway Patrol dispatch, one person has been confirmed dead following a deadly Santa Fe Springs crash early this morning.

As per the report, the collision happened a while before 2:00 a.m. on southbound near Carmenita Road. 

Officials said that multiple cars, including a semi-, crashed for reasons still under investigation. Following the crash, a man was thrown out of his car. The victim, only described as a man in his 40s, was declared dead at the crash site by responding emergency crews.

A SigAlert was issued by the CHP officials closing Interstate 5 lanes for some hours. Officials re-opened lane No.4 at around 4:30 a.m.

Further details regarding the incident were not available.

An investigation is underway.

Crash Fatalities in California Went Up in 2021, Early Federal Estimates Show

Newly released estimates by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that fatalities caused by traffic crashes on U.S. freeways reached a 16-year high in 2021. According to NHTSA, the crash deaths also increased in almost every state, including California.

According to the Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021 report released by NHTSA, about 42,915 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2021 in the U.S. This shows a 10.5% increase from the 38,828 fatalities reported in 2020. 

NHTSA says the projection is the highest number of traffic deaths since 2005 as well as the most significant percentage rise in the history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System. 

In California, 4,258 people died in traffic collisions in 2021 – a 10.7 increase from the 2020s 3,847, as per the NHTSA report titled – “Crash Stats: Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021.”

According to the traffic deaths estimates, in the two-state region that includes Arizona and California, crash fatalities in 2021 are projected to go up by 10% over the previous year.
