Chula Vista Woman Killed in DUI Crash on Interstate 15 in San Diego

, California (September 23, 2021) – A woman was killed and a man was injured early Thursday morning in an alleged DUI crash in the Sabre Springs neighborhood in San Diego, according to authorities.

The deadly accident happened at about 2:00 a.m. on , just south of State Route 56, California Highway Patrol reported.

According to the CHP, a Ford pickup was traveling northbound on Interstate 15 when, for unknown reasons, the Ford rear-ended a sedan driven by a 55-year-old Chula woman.

Following the collision, the Ford became disabled in the traffic lanes and was then struck by a Kia sedan driven by a 51-year-old Desert Hot Springs man.

The woman died in the crash. Her name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Kia sustained minor injuries.

The Ford driver did not stop to render aid to the victims and fled the scene. The suspect, only identified as a 30-year-old man, was later found lying unconscious on Sabre Springs Parkway with major head injuries.

The man was transported to a hospital to be treated before being arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and suspicion of driving under the influence.

More details regarding the mishap were not immediately available.

The crash remains under investigation.
