, Calif. – The Kern County Coroner's Office has released the names of the two people killed in the 35-vehicle pileup in Bakersfield Saturday morning. 

The coroner identified the victims as Pedro Garcia Canseco, 45, of , California, and Patricia Anne Wilson, 62, of Sun City, Arizona.

According to the Coroner's report, Pedro Canseco and Patricia Wilson were both drivers who collided with a big rig. The two drivers died at the scene. 9 other people were injured in the incident.

According to the CHP, the deadly pile-up happened at about 7:30 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2024, on the southbound between Millux Road and Old River Road.

Bakersfield, Calif. – Two people died, and nine others were injured in a pileup involving 35 vehicles that happened Saturday morning during foggy weather west of Bakersfield, the Kern County Fire Department said.

Authorities were notified about the crash around 7:30 a.m. on the southbound 5 Freeway between Millux Road and Old River Road.

Kern County sheriff's deputies, firefighters, Caltrans, and other emergency personnel responded to the scene and found 17 passenger cars and 18 big rigs involved in the accident.

The pileup occurred at a time when the area was foggy and visibility reduced to 10 feet, authorities said.

Two people were pronounced dead at the scene.

Nine others were taken to hospitals with minor injuries.

The collision scene spread out to about half a mile.

Southbound 5 Freeway was closed between Millux and Old River roads following the crash.
