Couple Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash in Eugene; Suspect Kile Clark Elder Arrested

Eugene, Ore. – Two people – a 49-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman – were injured in a hit-and-run traffic collision at an intersection in Eugene on Friday last week, according to Eugene Police Department (EPD).

The accident happened at about 5:08 p.m. on February 9 at the intersection of E. 6th Avenue and Oak Street.

According to EPD, the two pedestrians were walking north across East 6th Avenue on the west side of Oak Street, when a Subaru Forester, operated by 29-year-old Kile Clark Edler took a corner and struck them. The couple sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Elder drove away after hitting the pedestrians. His Subaru was sported by an EPD officer near W. 6th Avenue and Chambers Street. The officer initiated a traffic stop and contacted Elder.

Police say the suspect was confrontational and resisted arrest, but was taken into custody by officers.
Elder was taken to the Lane County Jail and faces several charges including felony hit-and-run, two counts of vehicular assault, two counts of reckless endangering, and resisting arrest.

The incident remains under investigation.
