Cruz Melendez Seriously Injured in Rancho Santa Margarita Accident on Antonio Parkway
Rancho Santa Margarita, California (May 29, 2022) – Cruz Melendez, 17, was seriously hurt in a deadly wrong-way collision that occurred on Tuesday night in Rancho Santa Margarita, according to a local news source.
Natalia Vaca Guevara, 27, died following the crash that occurred on Antonio Parkway near Tijeras Creek Road at around 10:10 p.m. on May 24.
Authorities said Guevara was driving a vehicle southbound on Antonio Parkway at a high rate of speed when she collided with the center median and struck an oncoming vehicle driven by Melendez.
Guevara was pronounced dead at the site of the collision.
Melendez and a passenger in Guevara's vehicle were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
The cause of the collision remained under investigation.

According to statistics by NHTSA, over 15,000 lives were saved by seat belts in crashes that happened in 2017. In 2020, 10,893 unbuckled people in passenger vehicles died in crashes in the US. 60% of the young adults (ages 18 to 34) killed in the crashes were completely unrestrained.
